Fort Rinella in Kalkara came to life this weekend with a WW1 weekend on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Great War.

The event is being organised by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, through its partnership with Bank of Valletta.

The programme is being repeated tomorrow with the firing of the 100 ton gun, a full-scale infantry trench complete with barbed wire entanglements in the grounds of the fort and a 20-men detachment kitted in British WW1 kit.

A full-scale WW1 battle scene will be re-enacted starting at 2pm.

This event is being complemented by a military headgear exhibition covering over 1,000 years of military gear evolution, the display of a genuine WW1 Vickers 18-pounder field gun, interactive displays about WW1 trench warfare and informative talks about period weaponry and equipment.
