The authorities investigated a case where the wrong corpse was taken for burial from the morgue of St Vincent de Paule Home, Social Policy Minister Marie-Louise Coleiro confirmed in Parliament this evening.

The case happened on March 23.

The minister said the facts of the case had been established and the home's management took the necessary measures to avoid a repetition.

She was replying to a question by Nationalist MP Mario Galea.

The minister did not reply to questions about whether the corpse was buried and when the mistake was noticed.

When contacted by timesofmalta.com, Mr Galea said the information he had been given, and which he would have liked the minister to confirm or otherwise, was that the wrong corpse was taken from the morgue, funeral Mass was held and the corpse was buried.

The mistake was noticed when people called at the morgue for the funeral of someone else and found the body missing.

The mistake was then rectified and both bodies were given their proper burial.
