England midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips has returned to his former club Manchester City from Premier League leaders Chelsea on a four-year deal, City said.

Wright-Phillips has agreed personal terms after completing a medical, the club said on their website (www.mcfc.co.uk).

No financial details were disclosed, although newspapers put a 9.0 million pound ($16.54 million) figure on the deal.

"Obviously I'm delighted to come back to City and I just can't wait to get started again," said Wright-Phillips, who joined Chelsea from City three years ago in a 21 million pound deal but never really established himself as a first choice for the starting line-up.

City manager Mark Hughes said the player had been a target since he took over at the club in June.

"To actually secure the deal and bring Shaun back home is a fantastic coup for us and I'm sure the supporters will be just as excited as we are to have him back at Manchester City," he told the website.
