Two men who tried to force open a door were arrested this afternoon after a chase by another two men and a police sergeant in Birkirkara.

The police reported that they received a call for help, with the caller saying two men were chasing another two men who had tried to force open a door in Carmel Street.

While policemen were going to the area, a police sergeant who happened to be passing by saw the chase and joined in .

The district police on arrival found the two suspects being held by the sergeant in Marku Falzon Street.

One of the men had been carrying tools which appeared to have been used in an attempt to force open the door.

The two men, who were already well known to the police, have been held for further investigation.

Earlier this afternoon the police also reported how an off-duty officer saw two men acting suspiciously in Zurrieq and called for help. The two men, a father and son, were found to have burgled a house (see separate story.)
