The taste of victory is so powerful that once savoured the desire to win more is overwhelming.

A case in point is that of two key protagonists featuring in this weekend's Malta Grand Prix of the Sea, the first of five events making up the UIM Powerboat P1 Championship 2009 calendar.

The 2005 P1 world champion Hannes Bohinc of Wettpunkt.com, a respected and highly decorated powerboat racer, will feature along Giancarlo Cangiano in the Italian OSG Racing Team, for an all-out assault on the Powerboat P1 world championship.

Owner and throttleman Cangiano, an ever present on the P1 circuit, is the world champion for 2006, having attained a second and a third placing in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

"It will be a very tough season but following trials in Lake Como and in Naples we are happy with the engine/boat combination, especially, the responsiveness and acceleration out of turns," declared Cangiano.

"I am happy to be joining OSG," Bohnic said.

"Giancarlo is a gentleman and an accomplished powerboat racer. He does things the right way with passion and excellence. It promises to be a very competitive season but we both know what it takes to win at this level."

The two powerboating heavyweights, contesting the Evolution Class, will race SNAV OSG, the US-built Outerlimits SV-43, powered by Mercury twin 9.1 litre supercharged V8s, capable of generating over 1,500hp.
