A Conservative standing for re-election in Britain has dismissed as “nonsense” claims that he attempted to sway potential voters with cake.

Jesse Norman (pictured left), who is standing in the Hereford and South Herefordshire constituency, was photographed with boxes of treats while out campaigning this month.

Police are reportedly investigating after Mr Norman was shown sitting at a table in an Asda store with a box of chocolate muffins, what appeared to be a tray of cherry Bakewells and other confections open beside him.

24 buckets of dirty nappies dumped

Police are searching for the person who has thrown out more than 24 buckets of dirty nappies into the streams of Maine.

More than two dozen five-gallon buckets containing soiled nappies have been thrown into streams in Wilton and Farmington in the last few months, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Wardens said in addition to the waste, the nappies contained chemicals that could be harmful to fish and wildlife.

Snoring passenger poked with pen

A passenger aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Chicago to Manchester, New Hampshire, was removed after allegedly poking a snoring passenger with a pen.

Airline officials said the woman was removed for “causing a disturbance”.

The Chicago fire department was called to evaluate the man. Southwest spokeswoman Brandy King said in a statement that the man was not injured and that he continued on the flight to New Hampshire. King said the woman who was removed was accommodated on another flight.

Bogus New York dentist arrested

A New York office worker has been arrested on charges that she has been posing as a dentist since at least December 2012 – and even pulled out patients’ teeth.

Valbona Yzeiraj was arrested on charges of assault, unauthorised practice of a profession and reckless endangerment. Police said records show at least four people have complained.

Authorities said the 45-year-old White Plains woman did injections in people’s mouths and on several occasions pulled out people’s teeth. They said she was an office worker at Ultimate Dental Care of Riverdale but was not a New York licensed dentist.

Woolly underpants an attraction

A large pair of woolly underpants is giving people an extra reason to visit Northern Ireland’s only World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway.

Put together as part of #LovetoKNIT month, the undergarment is said to belong to mythical giant Finn McCool, the famed hunter-warrior portrayed in folklore for getting into brawls with Scottish giant Benandonner.

#LovetoKNIT, run by Voluntary Arts, is the latest part of a rolling campaign that each month chooses a different art form and invites the public to share their creations.

Beatles memorabilia for auction

Money can’t buy me love but it can pay for some sought-after Beatles memorabilia.

A piece of paper signed by all four members of the band and a microphone used during the recording of their landmark album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band are up for auction and expected to fetch a four figure sum.

The autographs are valued at around £1,500 and the microphone could go for as much as £600. Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert, from Towcester in Northamptonshire, said: “A full set of Beatles autographs on the one sheet of paper has added rarity value and the condition is very good too.”
