Prince William’s engagement to Kate Middleton has been commemorated by an unofficial Welsh £5 banknote.

The limited edition souvenir, which is not legal tender, has been created by foreign exchange company Travelex after a poll of royal sentiment among the Welsh.

The study of more than 1,500 people found 83 per cent of those questioned last month wanted a special Welsh banknote to mark the engagement.

Rude road trip

Stars of cult TV hit The Inbetweeners are taking a rude road trip – trying to visit as many smuttily-named places as possible for Comic Relief.

The quartet of actors who appear in the Channel 4 comedy – Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison – aim to call at 50 lewd locations in 50 hours.

A programme about the road trip - being staged for March’s Red Nose Day – will be available to download from February 3 and fans can pledge donations at www.comicrelief.com/inbetweeners.

Ash dash

A man in Connecticut has been charged with stealing a funeral urn containing the ashes of his girlfriend’s grandmother.

Mark Kzakrzeski was carrying a pistol when he stole the urn during a row at the girlfriend’s home.

He told police he threw the ashes and urn in the woods. They have still not been found.

Bank withdrawal

Swiss bank UBS is revising its dress code after being mocked for suggesting employees wear skin-coloured underwear and avoid garlic breath.

The bank says it is whittling down its 44-page style guide to a more modest booklet that will concentrate on how to impress customers with a polished presence and sense of Swiss precision.

The original code instructed women how to apply makeup and which perfume to wear. Men were told how to knot a tie and to avoid unruly beards, garlic breath and earrings.

Taking the post road

Post was found scattered along 65 miles of a main road in Missouri after falling out of a truck.

The US postal service said the driver only realised the rear door was open when he was well on his way to the next state and stopped.

All of the missing mail was safely recovered.

Wogan joins panel

Sir Terry Wogan is to join the roster of regular panellists for long-running radio show Just A Minute.

The former Radio 2 breakfast host, who retired from his Wake Up To Wogan slot in 2008, will join the comedy series when it returns next month.

Also joining the Radio 4 programme – hosted by Nicholas Parsons – will be keyboard wizard and Grumpy Old Men regular Rick Wakeman.

Magician’s wig

Magician Paul Daniels is hoping to make one of his wigs disappear – with the help of auction website eBay.

The bald entertainer is selling a hairpiece he used to wear and, with almost four days to go, more than 20 bidders had pushed the price up to more than £100.

The eBay advert features a photo of 72-year-old Middlesbrough-born Daniels in the wig, which he says has an auburn tinge.

Morgan praised

Piers Morgan received a warm reception when he stepped into the shoes of CNN legend Larry King, interviewing Oprah Winfrey for his first Tonight show.

The former Daily Mirror editor was hailed as “high-energy, enthusiastic, effusive, playful, fascinated” by one US newspaper after the debut of his show on the US channel.

An approving reviewer on the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote: “Morgan asked questions he knew (Winfrey) did not wish to be asked and although she seldom answered them, he made sure she was always refusing, in the process, in spite of herself, revealing very much in-deed ...”

Elton on fatherhood

Sir Elton John has vowed to continue to provide emotional and financial support for two Ukrainian orphans even though he now has his own child.

The rock legend told OK! Magazine he and his civil partner David Furnish would never give up on two-year-old Lev and his brother Artyom, four.

The children stole the hearts of the couple when they visited an orphanage in 2009 but their plans to adopt were reportedly thwarted by Ukrainian laws. Sir Elton and Furnish finally fulfilled their dreams of having a child when their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born via a surrogate on Christmas Day.

Marriage woes

Cagefighter Alex Reid has told how he is “in bits” over the problems in his marriage to Katie Price.

The pair, who wed a year ago in Las Vegas following a whirlwind romance, were said to have been preparing to release a statement confirming the end of the marriage last week.

Reid, 35, told Star magazine: “I am feeling very emotional. It has not been the easiest week. It is all very upsetting.”

Donovan honoured

Sixties chart star Donovan – famed for hits such as Mellow Yellow and Sunshine Superman – is to be presented with a lifetime achievement award.

The flower power legend, who has worked with leading figures such as Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan, will be honoured at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards on February 7.

Scottish-born Donovan Leitch had a run of hits in the late 1960s in the UK and the US, bringing folk to the fore. A friend of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, he is also credited with teaching Sir Paul McCartney his finger-picking style and was sometimes seen as the UK’s answer to Dylan. (PA)
