Jenna from Grimsby - dressed as Nell Gwynn, the infamous mistress of King Charles II who was a patron of the sciences - posing next to a specially designed chocolate bust of the King which has been commissioned by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the restoration of the British monarchy, at the RSC in central London yesterday. Three hundred and fifty years ago today King Charles II stepped from a ship onto Dover dockside, his return from exile ushering in a golden age of British science.

To commemorate King Charles II's patronage of the sciences following his restoration to the throne, the RSC has commissioned the creation of a special anniversary cake, atop which stands a two-foot bust of the king lavishly modelled in chocolate. (PA)

Lohan ordered to wear tag

A Beverly Hills judge yesterday ordered actress Lindsay Lohan to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet and submit to random drug testing after she failed to appear for a court date last week.

Ms Lohan, 23, missed a court date to address allegations that she had violated the terms of her probation from a drink drive case by skipping alcohol education classes. She finally arrived at the Court House yesterday - seven minutes late - to fix bail conditions ahead of a probation violation hearing rescheduled for July 6.

The judge rejected calls by Ms Lohan's lawyer for the actress not to have to wear the alcohol monitoring bracelet and to be allowed to undergo drug testing in Texas, where she is working on a movie.

Ms Lohan missed last week's hearing after being stranded in France, where she had attended the Cannes Film Festival. She alleged her passport had been stolen. (AFP)

Marked man

A suspect in a Colorado burglary had the evidence written all over his face.

A witness told police that one of the thieves in Colorado had "East Side" tattooed on his upper lip, visible through his mask.

That led to the arrest of known criminal 20-year-old Anthony Brandon Gonzales. A police spokesman said: "It's hard to miss him." (PA)

World Cup prayers

Football has been compared to a religion by some - and now special prayers have been issued to help England supporters and others cope with the drama of the World Cup.

The Church of England has issued a "trinity" of three prayers for the global sporting event, two for the teams, hosts and fans and one for those indifferent to the beautiful game.

The prayers, for personal use and for church services, ask for blessings on all those involved, generous sportsmanship and for the competition to be a source of celebration. (PA)

Sarkozys enjoy farm life

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his singer-wife Carla took a stroll on the Champs Elysees yesterday as the Paris avenue turned into a huge farm to draw attention to the crisis in agriculture.

The first couple shook hands, petted cows and offered reassurances to farmers that their struggle with high production costs and tumbling food prices was taken seriously.

Nearly 1.8 million people turned out to see the Champs Elysees farm over Sunday and yesterday, making the event a victim of its own success in the eyes of some because of the large crowds.

Mr Sarkozy was welcomed with cheers of "Bravo" and "we need you" from the farmers who traditionally form part of his right-wing party's voter base.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy meanwhile was given a quick lesson on cattle feed. (AFP)

Wicked games

Two British boys were found guilty yesterday of attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl, having been cleared of rape after the girl admitted some of her evidence had not been truthful.

The children had been playing together in Hayes, London, when the incident occurred. The boys, aged 10 at the time, denied assaulting the girl, with their lawyers claiming they were just being naughty or playing a game.

The judge refused the lawyers' pleas to dismiss the case after the girl made the admission about her evidence.

In her police video interview, the girl, holding a teddy bear, said the boys offered to take her to her friend's home in the flats. In the hallway, "they pulled their pants down", she said, adding, "Then they pulled my pants down. I didn't want to and then they put me into the lift and then they done it again."

The defence lawyer said: "What this case is about is not a serious crime. It is about children. There is a game called 'You show me yours and I will show you mine'.

Both boys were ordered to register as sex offenders. (PA)
