Norwich: Businessman Peter Cullum will have to fork out £56m to take control of Norwich City. The 57-year-old made an informal offer last October but the Championship club yesterday said that the offer is not "financially viable". "Someone seeking to take control of the club and at the same time invest £20m in the playing squad would take a minimum of £56m," a club spokesman said.

Ferrari: Matteo Ferrari is looking to revive his career after becoming a free agent when his contract at Roma expired this week. Ferrari has already been linked with Inter and Fiorentina. Ferrari considers himself to be an important defender and at Roma he was nothing more than a good reserve."

Olympics: Marathon runner Liza Hunter-Galvan has been added to the New Zealand track and field team for Beijing after winning an appeal against her omission. The 36-year-old was originally overlooked for the team because the national selectors thought she had little hope of finishing in the top 16 based on her previous results. Hunter-Galvan lodged an appeal against the ruling, arguing that Athletics New Zealand had not followed their own rules when omitting her and the New Zealand Olympic Committee agreed.

Golf: Colin Montgomerie, eight times European number one, has climbed back into golf's world top 100 after an absence of four weeks. The 44-year-old Briton slipped out of the leading 100 in the world golf rankings on June 2, his lowest position for 18 years, but climbed to 77th place after finishing second in the French Open on Sunday. Montgomerie's efforts in Paris also lifted the Scot from outside the top 40 to 14th in the European Ryder Cup list.
