Transport Malta has contracted the World Aviation Group to take over its call centre, which was launched today.

Chairman Stanley Portelli said that ever since there was the amalgamation of three authorities into one, TM's responsibilities increased drastically and it now had 400,000 direct clients.

TM now offers more than 300 services to the public and even without being officially launched, the centre was already receiving 500 to 700 calls a day.

A total 80 per cent of the calls are taken within 20 seconds. Most of the queries are about licencing with a peak being reached towards the end of the month

The authority, Mr Portelli said, had invested in software to track customer queries and was now looking into launching more e-forms and working on a new web portal.

It also recruited 16 people for customer care.

Mr Portelli was speaking during a visit by Transport Minister Austin Gatt to the World Aviation Group premises in Luqa.
