On September 1, World Aviation Group (WAG) launched a waste management initiative toencourage its workforce to separate waste at source and foster a positive attitude towards recycling.

Parallel to this, WAG has been in consultation with its local community neighbours of Luqa for a joint initiative to apply for a set of bringin sites in the vicinity of WAG head office in Luqa.

'A little effort makes a big difference' was the main message leading this initiative. An educational training programme was specifically formulated and delivered to the internal stakeholders.

During this training, the main processes were highlighted and discussed together with a number of dos and don'ts that have to be followed when depositing waste into the separate bins. WAG also had several discussions with Luqa mayor John Schembri and the general executive secretary, Michael Borg with the aim to launch joint community activities including, among others, the formal request for a set of bring-in sites to be located in the suburbs of Luqa, close to WAG head offices.

"This waste management initiative is another example of how World Aviation Group is empowering its people to help make a difference in their workplace environment and local community and thus have less of an impact on the environment," WAGchief executive Dominic Attard said.

WAG is a joint venture between Air Malta and Cassar Aviation Services Pty Ltd of Australia. Formed in Malta in 1989, the group started as a general sales agency representing several international airlines in Malta. Over recent years this business developed into a global GSA network, with partnerships in Asia, North America, North Africa and Australasia.

In 2006, a multilingual contact centre (seven languages) was launched and this has now been supplemented by a business process outsourcing operation. The group employs 160 staff.

WAG is committed to be at the forefront in the local community by endorsing a strong corporate responsibility to the community environment.
