I refer to Michael Scicluna's letter More Works Needed In St Paul's Bay (July 22).

Discussions are underway for the toilets near the Sirens pitch to open shortly.

As regards dog pooh, it is the pet owner's responsibility to see that it has been picked up. The council can only at this stage remedy by ploughing the soil.

Regarding the old concrete bollard, there is going to be a new embellishment project funded by the EU which will completely change the area.

Should Mr Scicluna be interested, plans are available at the local council for viewing. This project has been also discussed and displayed during past annual locality meetings.

With regard to festoon lights, the council has invested in professional lights which are to be removed in winter and put back in summer.

As for the water fountain opposite Bay Square, this has been removed following several complaints from the public. As one can see, lots of people can enjoy the area and relax on the numerous benches.

The square is an attraction for various activities throughout the year.

As regards rubbish in front of Amazonia and Ta' Fra Ben, readers may wish to know that the beach cleaners are continuously clearing the area of rubbish scattered by irresponsible people. With regard to the roundabout in Wesgħa Mary Doris Zarb, the readers may wish to note that these plants, 35 per cent of which, according to the Mr Scicluna, are dead, are daisies and do not flower at this time of year.

These are kept planted so that when the right season comes, the bush gets bigger and flowers all the more.

Finally I would like to thank Mr Scicluna for his appraisal towards the embellishment of plants around the promenade in Buġibba.

Let's all strive together to leave St Paul's Bay better than we have found it!
