Work has started on the widening and resurfacing of a one-kilometre road which leads to the Ta' Pinu church in Gozo.

The Gozo Ministry said this was part of a project which would also see the rebuilding of the Xlendi road.

The whole project, costing some €9.48 million, will benefit from EU cohesion funds. The ministry said that after the widening of Ta' Pinu road, new rubble walls would be built and street furniture installed.

Soil removed from the site would be used for an afforestation project in a quarry in Nadur.
