A worker suffered the loss of the fingers and part of his left hand when it got trapped in a granulating machine this morning.

The worker, a 58-year-old man from Msida, was working in a scrap metal warehouse in Kirkop when the accident happened at about 11.30 a.m.

The police said his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is leading an inquiry.
