Contractors working on the new Parliament project are expected to finish the project in time for it to start being used after the summer recess, Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi said.

During a meeting of the House Business Committee last month, Speaker Anglu Farrugia expressed concern with the speed of the work and said a lot still needed to be done on the main chamber where plenary sittings would be held.

Dr Farrugia and Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi visited the building today accompanied by the members of the House Business Committee, the clerk of the House and the chairman for the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation.

They said following the visit that contractors were expected to be honouring the agreed schedule.

Mr Mizzi said that his ministry was monitoring the work to ensure that no more mistakes were made and to ensure that work did not continue to fall behind as it had been doing under the previous administration.
