Work on the Kappara Junction is one of country’s priorities and the government had the plans and the necessary funds in hand.

However, work on the Coastroad should ideally be concluded before the work on the junction started to avoid blocking the north of the island with traffic jams, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said this morning.

Speaking on One Radio, Dr Muscat said the issue was that EU funds were only available for a limited period and would be lost if they were not used during that time.

One of the solutions was providing a better public transport service, Dr Muscat said, adding that the government had to do more to explain the situation to the people.

“I am confident that we will have a better infrastructure in the end,” he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister said that following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Malta and Azerbaijan on strategic cooperation in the oil and gas sector, the government wasset to sign another agreement with Socar, Azerbaijan's oil company.

He said Socar had just acquired all of Exxombil's assets in Switzerland, alongside other joint ventures with international partners.

Dr Muscat also spoke on employment saying his government created double the amount of jobs created in the last legislature in just one year and a half.

However, it was not enough to create work, there also had to be enough Maltese trained for the employment being created and the jobs had to be quality ones.
