The €52 million rainwater flood relief project is being continued and the government will ensure it remains within budget and on time, Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi said this morning.

He spoke at Qormi as he inspected works on bridges and related works on a 2.2km gallery which will take water from Zebbug, Qormi and Marsa.

Another gallery will take water along 11km from Attard, Iklin, Birkirkara and Gzira.

He said a number of changes were being made by the present government, including increasing the water storage capacity in reservoirs.

85% of the project is being funded by the EU's cohesion fund. The project also includes a number of culverts and new bridges in Qormi.
