As part of the women's national team preparation for the GSSE in Malta next month, the Malta Basketball Association this week will be holding an international tournament.

The opponents for Santino Coppa's girls are the national teams of England and Scotland and an Italian Selection.

The tournament will be played at two venues, Ta' Qali and the University Sports Complex.

Programme

Friday (University): 6 p.m. England vs Italian Selection; 8 p.m. Malta vs Scotland.

Saturday (Ta' Qali): 3 p.m. Italian Selection vs Scotland; 5 p.m. Malta vs England.

Sunday (University): 6 p.m. Scotland vs England; 8 p.m. Italian Selection vs Malta.

Maltese/Australian in men's team

Australian Mark Micallef, who holds dual citizenship, will be playing for the national team in the GSSE tournament.

Micallef, 30, plays in the Australian Southern Cross League with the Toowoomba Mountaneers. He plays at the point and shooting guard position and is six-foot tall.

Micallef was voted the league's MVP in 2002.

Meanwhile, the MBA has announced the best player monthly award winners for February and March.

Michael Naudi (Pembroke) won the men's award for both months. Lucienne Bezzina (Hibs) and Josephine Grima (Depiro) shared the women's honour for February while Dorianne Galea (Depiro) landed the March accolade.
