Updated at 7.30pm with bail decision

A woman who transformed her massage parlour into a brothel was on Friday granted bail.

Pawlina Cutajar, a 24-year old from Gżira, was on Friday arraigned under arrest to face prostitution-related charges.

Inspector John Spiteri, handling the prosecution, exhibited cash retrieved from the premises where the woman conducted her illicit business.

Lawyer Arthur Azzopardi, assisting the arrested woman, informed magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech that, in view of his client's intention to register a guilty plea, he was requesting the court to recommend the drawing up of a pre-sentencing report.

Pending this report, Dr Azzopardi requested bail, which request did not meet with objection on the part of the prosecuting officer, who acknowledged that the woman's past had not been "an easy one" and that it would be wise to assess her present state.

Upholding the request regarding the pre-sentencing report, the court declared that the decision on bail would be delivered in chambers. She was later granted bail against a deposit of €500 and obligation to sign the bail book twice a week.
