A Bulgarian man who slightly injured his former girlfriend and threatened to use violence against her was conditionally discharged by a court today.

Nikolov Tsvetkov, 37, from St Paul's Bay, turned up at the house of his girlfriend’s husband and demanded the return of keys of his flat.

The police were alerted by  the woman, who was later found by officers hiding inside a wardrobe with her daughter. Mr Tsvetkov was waiting outside on the porch of the house, drinking a beer.

Mr Tsvetkov told police that he had gone to the house to get the keys of his flat back after they broke up. She told police that she was very scared of him after he slightly injured the day before.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras conditionally discharged him for three years and placed the victim under a protection order for 12 months.
