A woman who was caught red-handedd trying to break into parked cars, has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to four charges of aggravated theft.

Ruth Borda, 35 of Xgħajra, was arrested last Tuesday night in Naxxar after being spotted by police trying to force open car doors.

The woman was found in possession of items, including a purse and sports equipment, allegedly stolen from some other vehicles.

Investigations later linked the alleged culprit to the theft of two cars, a Toyota that was stolen from Paola back in January and an Audi that was taken from Sliema earlier this month.

Besides facing four charges of aggravated theft, the woman was further accused of giving false particulars to the police and breaching earlier bail conditions.

She made a not guilty plea but was remanded in custody by the court, presided by Magistrate Ian Farrugia, since no request for bail was made at this stage.

Inspectors Jonathan Ransley and Elton Taliana prosecuted.

Lawyer Joseph Ellis was legal aid defence counsel.
