Results of the autopsy held on the body of the 26-year-old Kelly Micallef showed that the woman died of pulmonary oedema, the police said.

Ms Micallef was yesterday found dead at her home in San Gwann with drug paraphernalia nearby. Her father found her lifeless body lying on her bed at 12.30 p.m.

Online medical reference MedlinePlus states that pulmonary oedema leads to a fluid build-up in the lungs which prevents oxygen from passing into the bloodstream.
