A woman was this morning given a two year jail term suspended for four years after she pleaded guilty to seriously injuring her father back in August 2007.

Annalise Galea, 25, had originally been charged with the attempted murder of her father Paul in their Birkirkara home, inflicting grievous injuries on him and carrying a knife without a licence. She had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Ms Galea had argued that her father had grabbed her by the neck and threatened her. She then allegedly stabbed him.

Ms Galea's jury, which had been due to start, was dropped after the defence and prosecution plea bargained and the attempted murder charge, which did not result from the evidence, was dropped.
