A 32-year-old woman was today condemned to one year imprisonment and fined  €2,000 after admitting to buying the methadone which was then given to a prisoner by another person while he was in the law courts building.

The case happened on April 10 last year.

Police sources said the police launched an investigation after being told that three women had been involved in passing on drugs to prisoners in court. The drugs were passed through kissing or other close contact (such as hugging) as the prisoners were escorted in the corridors after coming out of the lift or shortly before they were taken away.

The accused also admitted trafficking heroin and relapsing.

Investigations are continuing.
