A 33-year-old woman from Marsascala was today found not guilty of having threatened another woman, forcing her to marry an Arab in a marriage of convenience.

The prosecution told the court that Camilleri and another person had suggested the marriage of convenience to Cettina Kok, in order to make some quick money. The Arab man wanted to marry in order to acquire Maltese citizenship.

However Camilleri than learnt that Kok was Dutch and the Arab man would therefore not acquire Maltese citizenship unless Kok herself renounced her Dutch citizenship.

Kok initially refused to renounce her citizenship but she was bullied by Camilleri - to the extent that she eventually gave in, renounced  her citizenship and married the Arab man.

The court acquitted Camilleri after noting that only a police superintendent had given evidence and Ms Kok herself had not testified.
