A woman who was arraigned in court and accused of drug trafficking was remanded in custody today after a police inspector said investigations were under way on a possible link to a drug overdose case in Sta Lucia last Sunday.

Marusca Vidal, 31 of Paola, pleaded not guilty to trafficking heroin and possession of heroin in circumstances which showed it was not for her personal use.

She also pleaded not guilty to possession of cocaine.

Her defence counsel, Dr Arthur Azzopardi in requesting bail, said his client was a single mother with two young children. He said that an alternative could be house arrest.

Police Inspector Yohan Fenech said that there was a possibility that the accused could be linked to a drug overdose case which took place in Sta Lucia on Sunday, but investigations were still under way. Furthermore, he was contesting the possibility of house arrest because the drugs had been found at the residence of the accused.

The court decided to remand the accused in custody.
