A 29-year-old woman this morning pleaded not guilty to defrauding her former boss of more than €70,000 in cash.

Police Inspector Maurice Curmi testified that Alexia Cross of Burmarrad was employed in a shoe store owned by Joseph Pulo. He trusted her enough to send her to the bank with deposits for the company’s bank account.

But, on one occasion, she withdrew €700 and the bank manager contacted Mr Pulo to alert him that she had withdrawn some money.

The owner went to the bank to find out how much had been withdrawn and realised that she had taken around €70,000 in 2006 and a number of years before.
