A Serbian woman was released on bail today after she was accused of damaging the car of her allegedly abusive partner.

Aleksandra Lukovic, 39, was charged with causing wilful damage to Stefan Atanasov Boyanov's Mazda following an argument.

Aided by an interpreter, the accused informed Magistrate Anthony Vella that she was planning to file a report against her partner for domestic violence.

Asked why she had not done so, she replied that she was unemployed and that he had took care of her expenses, adding that she had previously nowhere to go.

The accused told the court that she had been living with her partner for just under a year but "not permanently".

Magistrate Vella granted her bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000.

Lawyer Noel Bartolo appeared for the accused.
