A 31-year-old woman from St Paul's Bay was granted bail today after pleading not guilty to injuring her French partner when she allegedly pushed him and he fell a height of one storey.

Dona Debono was charged with causing 41-year-old Frenchman Thierry Aliexis grievous bodily harm and with threatening him in the early hours of yesterday in Rabat.

Standing tearfully in the dock, Ms Debono said she had spent the day by his bedside in hospital as he was being treated for his injuries. She said that they had not broken up.

The two had a drunken row during which she pushed him, causing him to topple over the banister of a flight of stairs.

Lawyer Lucio Sciriha said that had Mr Aliexis not been confined to hospital, he would have renounced his complaint and halted proceedings.

Ms Debono was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000.
