Badminton Malta's competitive calendar for teams this season was made up of the Premier and First divisions.

The First Division was a two-horse race between defending champions Pawla Wolves Assikura and Birkirkara BC.

After the Paolites' victory in the first round, the two teams reached their second round clash with the Wolves two points ahead. The pressure was on Birkirkara who had no alternative but to win and hopefully trigger a decider.

But, from the outset, the Paolites clearly wanted to make the match their own as Tony Xuereb set them on their way when he beat Brian Zammit.

Birkirkara drew level by taking the second singles thanks to Samuel Cali but the Wolves recovered by winning the first doubles through brothers Edmond and Rodney Abela.

Tony Xuereb/Patrick Cassar then secured the second doubles by beating Ivan Salomone/Albert Bezzina for a final 3-1 score.
