A windsurfer was rescued by an AFM helicopter crew this afternoon after he was unable to return to land in Gozo.

The drama developed at about 4 p.m. when the surfer was unable to return to Qbajjar Bay, near Marsalforn.

People on shore raised the alarm and monitored his progress as he drifted out and towards Ramla Bay in the strong wind and heavy sea.

He was eventually plucked from the sea by an AFM helicopter and lowered on land in Marsalforn.
