January was characterised by slightly warmer temperatures, lower rainfall and heavier winds than what is usually experienced during this period, the Meteorological Office said.

The Met Office said rainfall was considerably lower than the January norm of 92.9mm, reaching a total of just 49.6mm. The total rainfall collected on the wettest day was 15.8mm.

The average temperature stood at 12.9°C, slightly warmer than the climate norm of 12.7°C. The highest temperature peaked at 18.3°C on January 17. Meanwhile, the lowest temperature recorded was 2.1°C on the January 1.

The lowest open ground temperature recorded was -0.4°C on the night between December 31 and January 1.
