Overweight or obese people who wish to lose weight effectively and forever are being invited to take part in a professional programme to help get them started to making the lifetime changes needed to reach their goal.

Pink magazine has partnered with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), manufacturers of alli, a weight management aid, to offer an effective all-round solution to overweight or obese persons.

Two selected candidates will receive free alli treatment complemented with individual one-on-one advice on how to tackle weight issues with the professional help of a nutritionist, personal trainer, psychologist and pharmacist. Lifetime changes are needed to shed extra kilos gradually and maintain the desired weight in the long term.

“Overweight and obesity problems are complex issues which cannot be tackled single-handedly. However, healthy weight loss starts with small changes. A healthy diet and increased activity levels are the foundations of weight loss,” said Monica Abdilla, Country Manager for GSK.

“Studies have shown that behavioural support increases weight loss success and these behavioural changes may simply mean setting achievable goals, like healthier food choices and more physical activity. These small, sustained changes will enable one to achieve steady and gradual weight loss that will enable them to enter a cycle of ongoing healthy behaviours for sustainable weight loss.

“For this reason, we have teamed up with Pink to offer a holistic weight loss solution to two readers and follow them step-by-step as they advance in losing weight, sharing their trials and tribulations as they go along their journey to a fitter self.”

Males and females over 18 with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28 kg/m² (weight divided by height in metres squared) or more may send a request to glorianne.q.gauci@gsk.com to receive an application for the Pink-alli weight management programme.

The Pink-alli programme

Applicants who send in their request to participate in the Pink-alli weight management programme will be assessed by a panel made up of Pink and GSK representatives, together with healthcare professionals, including a nutritionist and a psychologist.

The chosen candidates will feature in Pink, timesofmalta.com and other Media Maker/Allied Newspapers publication to share the experience and progress registered. Upon successful completion of the programme in June, the candidates will receive a reward, consisting of a three-month membership at Chic Physique under the professional supervision of fitness instructor Alan Curry and a head-to-toe makeover by Debenhams for the candidates’ healthier, slimmer look.

Closing date for applications is Monday, March 7.

How alli works

alli is the weight loss aid to help adults lose 50 per cent more weight than by dieting alone.

For adults with a Body Mass Index of 28 kg/m² or more, alli works by blocking about 25% of fat in the food you eat from being absorbed into the body, so for every 2 kilos you lose through your own efforts, alli can help you lose 1kg more.

It is the first and only EU-licensed, clinically proven weight loss aid available without prescription.

Used in conjunction with healthy eating and more active lifestyle, alli helps users achieve and maintain a sustainable weight.

Weight loss with alli is more gradual, so over time successful users can increase their chances of adapting new, sensible healthy habits that help them lose weight and keep it off.

Losing 5-10 per cent bodyweight is a clinically significant amount that delivers meaningful health benefits by reducing risk factors and visceral fat (dangerous fat that accumulates round the organs), thus improving quality of life.

Customised meal plans with reduced calorie and fat targets through cooking tips and menu options are available at www.alli.com.mt . There are also exercise plans and video of other people’s success stories.

alli is a medicinal and contains orlistat. Always read the product leaflet and consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
