Mona Camilleri, whose husband, a convicted drug trafficker and their son were killed in Marsaxlokk a year ago, fears for her life and that of her eight-month-old daughter.

She is calling on the authorities to step up the protection offered to victims of crime and their families and to show more sensitivity.

The body of her husband, Mario Camilleri, known as l-Imnieħru, is still in the morgue at Mater Dei Hospital.

“I don’t go to hospital for check-ups and appointments because I feel down knowing that my husband’s body is there. I just want to know that he is buried,” she told Times of Malta.

Ms Camilleri’s brother – Jason Galea – and George Galea are pleading not guilty to the murders. Earlier this month, they were granted bail. When she testified last September, Ms Camilleri said she believed her brother wanted to kill her too.

Things got worse for Ms Camilleri who says that, two weeks ago, she spotted a witness in the case outside her house.
