Wied iż-Żurrieq is being embellished in a €90,000 project that should improve access for divers and tourists taking boat trips to the Blue Grotto.

The Malta Tourism Authority could not start the work earlier because of the weather but the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Mario de Marco said structural work should be ready by next month.

The project includes the resurfacing of the quay with coloured concrete, replacing stone benches, building a shelter for those waiting for boat trips, improving the slipway and access ramp, installing new hand rails and divers' ladders, new buoys, rehabilitating the boat house and a general clean-up of the rocky shore.

The Qrendi council is contributing €11,000 for the works.

Dr de Marco, who visited the site, said this was another example of investment in the tourist product.
