The widow of a man who caused a fireworks explosion in Naxxar in 2008 has been ordered to pay €8,400 in damages by the Court of Appeal.

MIB Insurane Brokers (Malta) Ltd filed a case against Maria Camilleri and the vacant inheritance of her late husband Paul Camilleri, who lost his life in the explosion, claiming that its insured, Robert Runza, had suffered damages to his property in Naxxar after the illegal fireworks store kept by Mr Camilleri in his residence exploded on March 12, 2008.

Mrs Camilleri told the court that she had renounced to her husband's inheritance. She added that she was not personally responsible for any damages allegedly caused by her husband for she had no connection with the storage of fireworks.

But in October 2010 the Magistrates Court dismissed her pleas and found in favour of MIB.

Mrs Camilleri then appealed to the Court of Appeal which now dismissed the appeal and confirmed the Magistrates Court judgment.
