Several localities around the harbour area, including Valletta, were without power today after a contractor hit a power cable near Hexagon House.

Power was lost at 11.55 a.m. - hitting a TVM live transmission of the vote on the Opposition's motion of no confidence in the government. The vote was held normally.

The areas without power included Valletta, Marsa, Pieta and also Hamrun. Power started being restored to some localities at about 12.30 p.m.

Enemalta said that a third party private contractor working on the extensive road works next to Hexagon House hit an Enemalta cable which resulted in the suspension of supply in several localities.

Once the damage was reported, Enemalta employees went on site to identify the extent of the damage, which enabled them to isolate the fault and start repair works. Power was restored to all localities by 13.45 p.m.
