Malta lacks raw materials and needs to depend on its human resources for its livelihood. To this end, Malta has to invest heavily in education to have employees who can keep up with fierce international competition, and attract foreign investment.

Industry in Malta is shifting its operations from blue-collar to white-collar services, and as such the University has a fundamental role in coaching, educating and forming prospective employees.
