A man was arrested this evening after shooting down a protected White Stork in Marsa.

The stork was in a flock of some 10 birds which arrived over Malta yesterday.

The man, from St Julian's, was spotted, chased and arrested by two off-duty policemen. The dead bird was recovered and handed to the police.

The incident happened at about 7.15pm.
