The Whistle Blower Act would be one of the first measures a new Labour government would introduce, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this evening.

Speaking in Hamrun, he said he will continue to speak about political corruption because this was an unjust tax which families and businesses had to pay without getting anything in return.

A new Labour government would also spend wisely, with or without a fiscal pact because future generations had to pay for the money no problem mentality.

He said that the country was currently going though the contradiction of a Prime Minister signing an agreement through which one would not be able to spend more than he had but government expenditure in the first month of the year had increased by €61million at a time when it had to cut expenditure by €40 million. It also had to find another €25 million to shoulder Enemalta's debt.

He emphasised the need for the economy to be stimulated saying that unless this was done, the fiscal pact would not be successful and deficit would not be reduced.

He said it was amazing how GonziPN had to set up a special delegation to listen to the people when politics meant listening to the people.

He also said that new manoeuvres were taking place at Mepa where a new committee was set up to consider applications that would have been refused before they are taken to the board for a final decision.

Dr Muscat stressed the importance of the March 10 election and urged those who had not yet collected their vote to do so.
