Few people will forget the surreal moment ten years ago when they saw planes smashing into New York’s iconic Twin Towers.

The horrific attacks, which unfolded live on millions of TV screens, left 3,000 people dead and the rest of the world stunned.

As part of an anniversary feature for September 11th, timesofmalta.com is inviting readers to send in their comments and experiences.

Where were you when you heard the news? How did you react? Were you worried for family or friends? Were you about to catch a plane and had second thoughts?  Did you happen to be close to New York at the time? Or were completely distracted by a momentous episode in your own life (e.g. mourning a loved one or giving birth)?

The Times is looking to compile the memories of Maltese people in a way that helps us sensitively mark this tragic episode which shaped the course of history.
