I wish to assure Emily Barbaro-Sant (September 10) that I was not offended by her comments and apologise if she felt I was pointing a finger at her. I'm sure she found some of the "more specific and precise" gemgem (I find this frequently used word so babyish. I always crave for some pappa and milky when I read it!) in my answer to Edgar Montanaro (September 11).

I too try to keep JFK's words in mind. Along with them I keep "Catch them being good" as a guide. I'll share one experience with you.

There is a service-minded person in St Julians. We're not related, I don't know his name or where he lives. I observed him from a distance. Every morning he did something to make just a small area of St Julians more pleasant. My motto came to mind and so I e-mailed our mayor about this, suggesting that some recognition be given to this person. I won't go through the whole correspondence but I suggested that this might instil some pride in our environment among other individuals. Positive suggestion, you tell yourself.

I had my answer, this gentleman's contribution stopped within a couple of days of my writing. It might be the person got sick, so I'm not pointing any fingers. Hopefully, it was the seed to have the recognition ceremony you attended.

I am under the impression that this was the first such event. I haven't lived here that long, so I might be wrong. I don't want any pats on the back and again, even though I don't think I know any of the recipients, my congratulations. Obviously, they were caught being good.

One personal request. Ms Barbaro-Sant, when you come for the walkabout start at Ix-Xatt and walk past the Love sign towards Sliema. Just a few metres away there's a crosswalk. Trust me, there is one. Cross the street, go up the 57 steps and walk in the neighbourhood. From what I've been told, Triq Sant Elija has been paved, so you missed one of the attractions. Visit during working hours. Just keep your eyes and ears open. Visit other residential areas, use the crosswalks, check signage for neglected safety measures. Then enjoy your walk along the bay. Maybe you should wait a while. Lots of debris in the water and, one assumes, the local councils are in debate with whoever is responsible to remove the sunken fireworks barge and correct any hazard to the environment.

As far as it goes, I've said enough on this topic.
