Maltese-Arab woman on a mission to Gaza

Sanaa El-Nahhal, a Maltese-Arab from Palestine, flitted from one carton box to another anxiously hoping they will be filled with donations of medicine, food and supplies to take to Gaza. Having lived in Malta since 1989, the 40-year-old woman is the only member of her family, outside her immediate one, who is not caught up in the war in Gaza. But that is exactly where she wants to be and she is collecting supplies from her friends and generous souls to take with her on her journey home.

Gas supplies ‘unlikely to be affected by Russia-Uraine row’

Malta should not be affected by Russia’s stoppage of gas supplies to Europe because its gas comes from European sources and is shipped over from France, Enemalta said yesterday.

Moreover, Malta imports liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is in a completely different state from the natural gas in the pipelines in question, it said. Russian gas supplies via Ukraine to southeastern Europe and Turkey were halted yesterday after provisions intended for Ukraine’s domestic use were switched off on New Year’s Day.

Dr Borg Olivier speaks on Rhodesian flag

Malta’s Premier Dr Borg Olivier said Rhodesia’s breakaway white regime had the right to fly its own flag over its own London offices.

The new green and white flag was hoisted above Rhodesia House last week. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office here has called the move illegal and is studying the implications.

Dr Borg Olivier, on arrival in London for the Commonwealth conference starting here today, described the three-year independence stalemate over Rhodesia as an “insoluble situation”.

More air hostesses return from training

The second group of Air Melita air hostesses who have followed a three-week course at the Trans World Airlines international training centre in Kansas City, Missouri, returned to Malta at the weekend.

The hostesses will now take a six-week course of pre-operational training. Also back from the United States after a seven-week stay at the T.W.A. centre is Miss Mary Polidano, of Balzan, who had successfully followed the first course and remained in Kansas City to supervise the second group of hostesses.
