A young whale shark dies as it washes ashore on Manila Bay, although experts find no sign of external injuries.

It's not everyday that a whale shark washes ashore in Manila Bay.

Known locally as "butanding," the gentle giants, which can reach 12 meters long, usually congregate in the waters off the central Philippines in the early part of the year.

When fisherman saw it, they tried to to rescue the butanding, but it was to no avail - the creature died within minutes.
