Austrian entry Wettpunkt.com last weekend halted the dominance of Italian Team Sony in the UIM Powerboat P1 2005 championship after winning the Germany GP at the Baltic race in Travemunde.

"Without doubt, Sony is a superboat, hard to catch, hard to beat but our perseverance and forceful challenge paid dividends. We feel so excited," a Wettpunkt.com statement said after the weekend racing.

After finishing second on Day One in Evolution Class, trailing by only three seconds after 81 miles of racing, Wettpunkt.com, driven by Englishman Miles Jennings, pushed Sony to the limits.

The crowds packed the coastline with hundreds of spectator boats surrounding the straights of the racing course as the spectacular chases between Sony and Wettpunkt.com were going on.

In the end, Sony lost all their early lead with a blown turbo that put paid to the team's erstwhile unbeaten record.

But, probably, the best racing action of the weekend was provided by the fierce duel between the Lamborghini-powered duo OSG and Thuraya.

The two Italian entries were neck and neck until the very last lap when Thuraya throttleman Adriano Panatta took full advantage of a costly mistake by OSG to finish second behind Wettpunkt.com.

Swiss success

There was another different winner in SuperSport Class as Offshore Challenge, of Switzerland, claimed their first victory of the season, ahead of championship leaders Buzzi Bullet and Italians OBA OBA Racing.

Chris Lesquereux was over the moon with this win, declaring that after the Day One loss to Buzzi Bullet, they took their sporting revenge by beating them the next day with a great performance.

After missing the Anzio GP in Italy last month, Malta's Chaudron Team found the going tough to catch up with the front-runners in Germany.

The stage is now set for the British Grand Prix, at the Isle of Wight, on August 26-28.
