An elderly Welshman who died when he was hit by a boat off Hondoq ir-Rummien on Saturday loved coming to Malta and was a keen swimmer, Welsh media has reported.

Allan Stanley, 76, from Gwynedd died on Saturday when he was hit by boat’s propeller.

He ran the Period Pine furniture shop and was described by his son Russell as a “hard worker” who had enjoyed holidays in Malta.

He told the Daily Post that his father and his wife Diane had a long-term rent in Gozo and would spend three or four months a year there.

He was two months into his Malta visit when the fatal accident happened.

“He loved it there (in Malta), he always looked forward to going. He was a keen swimmer, kept very fit for his age, he’d swim a mile or two every day when he was over there.

“We are all absolutely devastated," Russell told the Post.
