A state-of-the-art environmental monitoring station has been installed at Ġgantija Temples in Xagħra, with the help of Vodafone Malta Foundation.

The equipment will enable specialists to monitor the temples’ exposure to environmental elements and gauge the toll climate takes on the open-air sites.

Heritage Malta manager for Gozo Nicoline Sagona said the weather station was equipped to measure temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, solar radiation, rainfall, wind speed and direction.

Foundation chairman Ġemma Mifsud Bonnici said the foundation was committed towards social and cultural investments which helps preserve, protect and promoted Malta’s history and heritage.

Similar stations are installed at Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra and at Tarxien Temples.

The foundation has also donated funds towards the production of an interactive DVD and two touch screen computers to improve the accessibility of the Ġgantija site. The DVD will be ready soon.
