Road barriers haphazardly installed over the weekend added more chaos to one of Malta's busiest road junctions, as footage shot this morning shows.

Barriers were placed along Triq il-Ġnien in Gżira, leading to the bottom part of Testaferrata Street.

Complaints were made to Times of Malta over the weekend after the orange barriers were crudely planted in the street until the completion of roadworks, blocking access to Testaferrata Street with no warning signs for drivers.

"Of course works sometimes need to be carried out but the free-for-all and lack of respect towards drivers and commuters just keeps getting worse," one driver said.

The barriers this morning caused tension between workers and employees of a pastizzerija nearby, forcing wardens and Transport Malta officials to intervene.

The road is currently coping with large volumes of traffic, exacerbated because of the traffic diversions from the Kappara project.
