Mobile phone video has emerged showing the evacuation of some 300 passengers from an Emirates aircraft which crash landed in Dubai early this afternoon after a flight from India.

Despite the emergency, some of the mostly Indian passengers tried to take their hand luggage with them. Crew are heard telling them to leave all luggage behind and head for the slide-chutes.

A fire can be seen near one of the engines shortly before the aircraft burst into flames.

No passengers died and only 10 were slightly injured, but a firefighter was killed when the flames spread, and he has been hailed a hero for saving countless lives.

The cause of the crash is not known. The plane had apparently aborted the landing and had been about to go-around for another landing when it crashed on the runway, wheels up.

The same plane was in Malta yesterday.
