Storm watchers risked their lives on Monday (October 16) as waves crashed down on the seafront of the Welsh town of Aberystwyth.

High seas generated by Storm Ophelia made for spectacular swells in parts of the British coastline as the weather front made landfall in Wales, the north west of England and the south west of Scotland.

Tom Francis, a university student living in Aberystwyth, captured these dramatic pictures and posted them to social media.
